ASH Fellowship Teaching

Welcome to the Alice Springs ED Fellowship Teaching Programme!

This is a SIX MONTH programme targeting success in the ACEM Fellowship Written Exam It is based around 25 major themes, with one theme covered each week.

Please know that this programme is not designed to be stand-alone preparation, and successful candidates will need to expand their knowledge base using the prescribed texts, courses and other available resources in addition to working through this programme. Sorry!

Our goal is to have a 120 point (1 hour) SAQ exam and a shorter SCQ exam for the trainees to sit each week, with major topics covered in the exam. Each of the trainees submits a single SAQ based on an allocated topic to the facilitating FACEM. This is a way of contributing to the group, but it also allows a greater understanding of the process of question-writing and the limitations of the framework that this exam format brings.

We get together each Thursday from 12-2pm for a 2-hour tutorial. This consists of:

  • A 30 minute talk from one of the peri-fellowship trainees on a "critical issue" within the topic of the week (e.g. "Bleeding in pregnancy" for the O&G week).

  • 1 hour of feedback and a "Q and A" on the SAQ exam of the week. The facilitator will mark and return the SAQs submitted by the trainees prior to this session.

  • 30 minutes to conclude. This allows general conversation and discussion, and the option of sitting the SCQ exam on the theme of the week.
